What will your first session look like?
My dog Griffin (pictured) will likely greet you then go to his corner for the duration of the session. Then I like to start wherever you’re at … the main reasons you want therapy, what you’d like to dig into, how frustrated you might be after almost a year in a pandemic lockdown. Together we will talk about where you come from, where you’ve been … and I like to ask people: if we are sitting here in, say, 3 months and therapy were to be effective, what would things look like for you? Inside (better self-esteem, less anxiety, more motivation) and outside (less conflict in my relationship, having a relationship, more friends)? Sometimes it helps to focus us.
And we might talk about previous therapy experiences you’ve had and what potentially has held you back from making this call until now. It can be scary, takes courage, and definitely is an investment. It can also change your life — unlock some rigid thinking that holds you back, help you be more vulnerable allowing you to get your needs met, or set some boundaries that help you take care of yourself and be less resentful.
We’ll discuss a fee arrangement and how you’d like to take care of sessions, if you’d like a superbill (for insurance reimbursement) and I have some brief paperwork to collect.
If you’d like to consult with me by phone or video, call or message me. If you leave a message for me, I will return your call within 24 hours.
