I’ve always enjoyed working with teens and their families. I continue to spend part of my time at an adolescent treatment center doing family and group therapy. Adolescence is such an important stage of life and it’s an honor and a privilege to help teens find themselves during this time.
However, it’s no secret it can be incredibly challenging for both the kids and parents! Kids want to be their own person, resisting any kind of direction or control in order to make their own decisions. And parents trying their best to guide them and give up control. A very difficult balancing act! My goal in family therapy is to ultimately not be needed. I want to help kids and parents talk to each other without a facilitator. And for kids to get what they need without acting out or shutting down.
